The People of Gibraltar
1929 - Lionel Edwards - Point-to-Point

Lionel Dalhousie Robertson Edwards was a prolific 20th century British artist who specialised in painting horses, particularly in hunting and horse racing scenes. He enrolled in the army during WW I where he was appropriately employed as a Remount Purchasing Officer. A keen horseman himself, he spent much of his spare time hunting and attending sporting functions.

All the paintings shown below were probably done in the late 1920s when he is reputed to have spent some time on the Rock. The horse racing painting appears to have been commissioned by the Stewards of Gibraltar Racing Club ( see LINK )  and presented to Major H. L. Hervey, Clerk of the Course for 1932-33.
