The shoreline nearest the camera was very familiar to me. I was a member of the Calpe Rowing Club which is the building complex that appears on the bottom right of the photo. We invariably rowed our racing "yolas" close to this place as we travelled up towards the Bay.

This popular watering hole was touted as a real old English tavern. Its bar was the longest in Gibraltar.

"Sugar", aka Doming Ochello

By his own admission, Domingo was known as "Sugar" because he was "so sweet". The reason he was sad was because he had just lost his pet canary. I don't think they ever found it. 

 
The Sacarello family were distant relatives of mine. Memo Sacarello married my great grandfather, Angel Chipulina.

Although I didn't know him all that well, Willie was in the same class as me at the Gibraltar Grammar School - he was already one of the best guitarists that Gibraltar has ever produced.
